Pipeline Security

Model FR302-Classification is specially designed to provide real time physical security of buried pipelines and other in ground infrastructures using acoustic signatures. FR302-Classification can also detect leaks in pipelines. To completely eliminate a single-point of failure of the system and yet provide seamless integration, redundant options are available.

Small Form Factor

Retrofitted to existing cables

The system works on any existing single-mode fiber-optic cable that is buried along the pipeline. Once installed, maintenance is low.

Long Range and High Location Accuracy

Long Range (up to 100 km per system, up to 50 km each sensor) with pinpoint location accuracy of +/ 6 m. Detects many third party interference intrusion types for buried pipelines, such as manual and machine digging and the presence of heavy vehicles. The FR301 system has 2 sensors.

Cut Immunity

System is immune to a cable break when installed in a closed configuration. Each sensor detects up to the point of a break.

Algorithms use pattern recognition for Classification and advanced background rejection leading to superior Probability of Detection and a low nuisance alarm rate.

Summary

The FR302-Classification use standard single mode fiber-optic cable buried along a pipeline to detect, classify, and precisely locate the third party interference (TPI) activities. TPI includes unauthorized excavation and theft, which are the leading cause of pipeline accidents and losses. The FR301 solution is an efficient and cost-effective way to mitigate such risks. Designed to sense vibration, earth movement, and other physical disturbances, the FR301 system detects excavation activities long before the digging equipment can reach the sensing cable and the pipe itself. By providing an early warning and the precise location of an incident, a FR301 system can help responders prevent costly damage. Multiple FR301 systems can be daisy-chained and monitored from a central location using a 3rd party headend. The FR301 sensors can also protect fences near pumping stations and other pipeline facilities. Existing fiber-optic communication cables buried along pipelines can often be retrofitted to enable pipeline monitoring.
